GVN Changemakers

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." ~ Margaret Mead.

At the GVN Foundation we have the opportunity to get to know extraordinary changemakers from every corner of the world. This page is dedicated to these people, who together are changing the world.

Featured Changemaker: Amy Trumpeter

Amy In 2010, Amy decided to travel to Rwanda with GVN to celebrate her 30th birthday. Her decision changed her life forever.

During her time in Rwanda, Amy met an amazing woman called Habiba. Habiba was pregnant during the Rwandan genocide, but lost her baby because there was no access to healthcare, and she needed a midwife. All of her family were killed during the violence of 1994.

When Amy met Habiba, she was beading to try to survive, but the lack of a tourist trade in Rwanda meant she struggled to sell her work in her own country. Amy loved her beaded pens, and was amazed by her courage and determination, so decided to support her. Amy promised Habibi that she would sell her pens back in the UK.

Amy quickly realised that there were lots more people like Habiba and she took a big step. She quit her teaching job in the UK and started a company called Kigali Crafts Ltd. that trades fairly with Rwanda survivors. She now sells crafts for 65 families through her website: http://www.kigalicrafts.com/.
