Wara Association

The association was created 5 years ago by 2 brothers, Williar and Wilbert Cárdenas Vargas, to help the children of poor families from the Huayllarccocha community, who live a couple of miles away from Cusco in the mountains.

According to the slogan of the association, "Deporte para la vida" (= Sport for life), at the beginning, the project was to educate the children through sports and especially football. By teaching the kids to play by the rules, to arbitrate the games and by mixing boys and girls during the trainings, the brothers Cárdenas Vargas were hoping to teach the children the basics to manage in life and escape the problems of alcoholism and unemployment the community is suffering from.

Since its creation, the association has grown and offers the kids the opportunity to participate in activities every day from 9am to 6pm:

  1. Teaching of basic hygiene rules(washing the children´s hair and teeth every morning)
  2. Kindergarden for the youngest kids with a teacher from the region
  3. Help to do homework for the older children
  4. English and art lessons
  5. Distribution of vitamins to improve the children´s health

The children who attend the activities are from the Huayllarccocha community. The average number of children per family in this community is 6. The average monthly income per family is $50. We are seeking donors to sponsor the children at the Wara Association or to make a one-off donation to assist with purchasing supplies.
