Ongata Rongai Christian Women Works of Charity

Ongata Rongai Christian Women Works of Charity is an organization that provides services to orphans and vulnerable children and their families in Ongata Rongai Kenya. The center is located in the Kware slums. Their work has been a large assistance to the community. Many children who are caring for parents with HIV/AIDS or who's parents have passed away due to the virus, are being provided a safe haven through ORCWWC. Amongst the many services they provide, Inside the doors of their center, kids receive free education, two meals a day (that are often the only meals they have), a safe play area and support from staff. Their families are serviced as well through outpatient programs, an HIV/AIDS clinic for prevention, education and testing. The families are also encouraged to participate in income generating activities such as basket weaving, purse making and the selling of jinko liners so that not only the center can remain open, but they can generate their own funds without having to participate in illegal activity or sexual exploitation.

ORCWWC is desperately attempting to build a well. This well would provide the kids at the center with clean water and the funds would be a source of consistent income to always keep the center open. The center plans to sell the water at a reasonable price and use the funds to primarily serve their feeding program, improve their current services and improve the center's overall environment. Natalia and Sol, two girls that have volunteered at the center, are heading the fundraising of building this well through Project X a group of friends dedicated to spread the word and meeting the goal.
