Sponsor a child at Pipeline IDP Camp
After the December 2007 elections in Kenya, political violence ravished the
country leaving many homeless and jobless. Many internally displaced persons (IDP)
camps were formed to protect those targeted for violence. One of these camps is
outside of Nakuru, Kenya. Even though its people had received food relief and
a tent by the United Nations (U.N.), no support was provided for their long
term housing and reorganization for lost businesses and assets. One year after
the election violence the Red Cross and U.N. were banned from the country by
the Kenyan government. Tents designed for six month use are now deteriorated.
Families have been using these tents for over a year and a half, which makes living conditions quite harsh. In addition, employment opportunities for parents are lacking in a struggling Kenyan economy. Therefore, financial resources the parents need in order to send their children to school are absent because any little money made is spent on their constant struggle to alleviate their hunger.
Upon personal experience I have found that educated deprived persons living in poverty are not responsive to environmental needs due to a persistent need for survival. Trash is strewn everywhere while batteries leach into the soil and the debris covers water system. Indirectly it is our responsibility to make sure all persons are educated to a level that enables them to be cohesive in our struggle to sustain our planets resources so that future generations may enjoy.
I am therefore working together with the GVN Foundation and GVN Foundation Australia
to sponsor the construction of a school at Pipeline IDP camp. GVNFA is looking
to build five classrooms each year to accommodate 200 standard one children each
year for eight years until the entire primary school is completed. We would love you to play a pivotal role in the creation of this school
by sponsoring a child or making a one-off donation.
