Higher Education for Children in Nepal

Class 10 Boys

“If your plan is for one year, plant rice. If your plan is for ten years, plant trees. If your plan is for one hundred years, educate children.” ~ Confucius

The Project of the Month is an initiative which puts one of our projects in the spotlight for a month to help raise awareness and funds for a specific cause. For August, to celebrate International Youth Day, our focus is on educating youth in Nepal.

Objective To help start a Further Education Fund for the children at Shining Stars Children’s Home (SSCH) and Bright Future Children’s Home (BFCH).

Why A Further Education Fund?: Education is the best long-term solution to break the cycle of poverty. It intervenes by building the strong foundation these children need for later life. The children from SSCH and BFCH have not had the easiest start to life as they are from families without parents or with parents who could not provide for them. However, the focus is on the future of these children and a Further Education Fund will give these children the option to chase after their dreams and aspirations and not live in poverty.

Need: At SSCH and BFCH, they have 7 kids completing their School Leaving Certificate next spring, all of whom are either going to want to go on and take classes 11 & 12 at college, or some kind of vocational training. In 2014, the children’s homes have a further 5 graduating and then kids every year, up to and including 2019 which as you can imagine is enough to make anyone grow wrinkles! Most people only have to worry about 1 or 2 kids not 38!!!!

Meet the boys of Class 10 and click on them to see their aspirations for the future:
